Buying advice and FAQ
We advise you to measure yourself carefully (and honestly) and compare your measurements with those of your selected gown. Please note that our gowns are not all the same measurements so please use the size guide for your chosen gown.
Choose your gown carefully taking your body shape into consideration. For instance, straight skirts don't look good on wide hips, strapless gowns and large boobs may cause embarrassment.
The Fairy Godmothers are very happy to provide advice and recommendations. You will need to email us your bust waist and hip measurements and height. Eye colour, hair colour and skin tone are also very useful. We will then recommend a number of gowns to suit, for you to choose from.
Once your beautiful gown has arrived please take care unpacking and trying on as damaged gowns are not returnable. Try your gown on with and without a bra before you decide that the fit is not correct as some bras will interfere with the boning and natural cut of the gown.
Please note that when you try on a product, do so in a smoke-free and pet-free environment, keep the packaging undamaged and please don’t wear perfume, deodorant or make-up which can leave a scent or marks on the product. Please keep all the enclosed invoices and tags with your product
Q) I am a size 12 normally however I have looked at your measurements and they tell me I am a 14, shall I order a size 12 anyway?
A) Our gowns are very small fitting and you may find you have to go up a size or two for the best fit. Our gowns have no Lycra in them and will not stretch to fit, if you are on the borderline go with the larger size.
Q) I have looked at the gowns on your site and some of the size charts tell me I am a size 16 and some a size 18 why?
A) The gowns are not all made in the same factory, the sizes will vary as much as one or two whole sizes. Please compare your measurements with those relating to the gown you have chosen.
Q) Are your gowns made to measure?
A) Our gowns can be made to measure if you require, there will be an added charge for this service and returns cannot be accepted. Not all of our gowns are not made to measure, our customers like to receive their gowns in as short a timescale as possible and we endevour to get them to you as soon as we possibly can.
Q) I have purchased a gown and I feel really restrained in it - will I need the next size up?
A) Ball gowns are often boned to enhance your figure and made to fit snugly. We are so used to wearing clothes with Lycra in them that when we put on a gown for the first time it feels rather restricting. Unless you are really uncomfortable, don’t go for a larger size, as a baggy ball gown is not very becoming.
Q) Do you have any pictures of this gown in different colours?
A) We don’t have pictures of all the gowns in all of the colours available. Occasionally we do manage to get pictures of the gowns in other colours and where possible try to show them on the site.
Q) I would like to purchase one of your gowns however I would like to see it first, will you post me one to try on to see if I like it.
A) Ball gowns incur heavy postal charges which makes offering a try-before-you-buy service uneconomical.
Q) Can I place a deposit and/or pay for items in instalments.
A) We are more than happy to accept payment in instalments and will put aside a gown once a 10% deposit is paid. The gown will then be posted upon receipt of the final payment.
Q) I am looking for a gown but am not sure what style to go for?
A) We are more than happy to advise you on the best style and fit for you. You will need to send in your bust waist and hip measurements and height. Eye colour, hair colour and skin tone are also very useful. We will then recommend a number of gowns to suit, for you to choose from.
Q) If I want to choose from several styles, should I buy them and then return the styles that don't suit?
A) No. We are not able to stock the many styles in all colours and sizes, so to accommodate your order it is likely that we would have to order them from the designers specially. This would result in surplus stock and a need to increase our prices to cover costs. In addition you can be assured that gowns purchased from us have not previously been to several customers for "trying on".
