She desperately wanted to go to the ball, her secret admirer had said that he would stand in the centre of the dance floor at midnight.

She was supposed to be working that night and the owner had refused to let her change her shift and insisted that nobody else could cover. The place was quiet as she walked into work and her disappointment was written all over her face. She reached for an apron as the door exploded; her work friends came tumbling through with the most beautiful dress she had ever seen.

It was very late. At the ball she hurried to the top of the huge flight of stairs, hoping it wouldn't be too late. She stopped, hardly daring to breathe, and looked down around the dancefloor.

He was there, tall, hansome and slim, she recognised him instantly . He looked up at the same moment, he was dazed he hoped she would come, he didn't think she would look so beautiful.

 She saw his face, knew he was in love with her, as she floated down the stairs towards him, her ball gown skipping gently over every step...........
